ふーちんギド FU-CHING-GIDO Live Clips

Last week we unveiled our new duo FU-CHING-GIDO
at our live debut, opening for The Space Baa at Chikyuya in Tokyo. Fu-ching and I were both really nervous, to be presenting something new, and because our set is so tricky to play! But the audience reaction was so great, we soon lost our nerves and had a great time.
We're working on our next gig, hopefully in January or February, watch this space!
In the meantime, here's a couple of songs from that night, "Fire" and "La Critica".

I had thought about writing in depth about our new band, and all the challenges which come with playing in a tuba/drums duo. 

But forget all that. Yes, performing like this is a absolute tightrope walk, but the most important thing everybody should know is that Fu-ching is an amazing musician, and this band rocks!

On Tuesday night at Chikyuya, we're opening for The Space Baa, and I  promise you this, we'll be giving it everything we've got!

夫婦善哉

I'm playing on the soundtrack of the new NHK period drama "夫婦善哉 ", ("meotozenzai" or "Couple Manners"). I've just seen the first publicity, and it looks really great. The Taisho Era setting is right up my street, and looks really authentic. It starts on August 24th, and I can't wait to see it!

New(ish) release! Charan-Po-Rantan

This one's been out for a couple of months, but I just found out about it. In January my friend Koharu asked me to record a few songs with her excellent band Charan-Po-Rantan, which was a great pleasure.

Golden Week and beyond

Hello there! Tomorrow is the start of Golden Week. The time when the good workers of Japan get some time off. It's also usually the time of year when I'm busiest. And this year is the craziest and most fun yet, both in terms of rushing around (4 shows in 24 hours at one point), and also in sheer diversity of musical styles. Idol group Nogizaka46, Shibusashirazu Orchestra performing an insane 3 hour version of Darius Milhaud's La Bœuf sur la Toit at Tokyo International Forum, a gig at Shinjuku Pit Inn with the great Orquesta Libre, and a children's concert with the splendidly named Jellyfish Brass Plop brass ensemble.
