Upcoming gigs

Hello!
Long time no blog! Apologies, I've been completely snowed under, mixing and producing the debut album by FU-CHING-GIDO, my band with the wonderful drummer Fu-ching. The release is imminent, and I'll no doubt be going crazy publicising it, so you'll be hearing plenty about it. We're also planning an album release party, which is looking like it should be a really great night. I'll be letting you know all about that one very soon too.
And I've been a bit useless about updating my latest releases and discography too. I'll soon do a big post and bring it all up to date. There have been some nice things I've been involved with recently, including two releases by Cicala Mvta.

Anyhoo, in the near future I have a couple of gigs I'd like to tell you about.

First up, on February 4th, is a FU-CHING-GIDO gig at Yellow Vision in Asagaya, opening for a great band, Pachikuri Elegance, led by the great bassist Higo Hiroshi. Fu-ching and I will be giving it our all, and fingers crossed, we might even have a new song!

Following that, on February 7th, my ancient funk band, Nerima Tea Club will be playing with the fantastic Iizuka Naoko, Fukushima Hisao + Kosmas Kopitza Trio. We had such a great time sharing the bill last year at Cafe Flying Teapot, that we decided we had to do it again!

We had such a good time at our gig at Cafe DECA in Yotsuya last week, that I thought it would be nice to share a few tracks with the people who haven't been able to make it to the gigs but wanted to check the band out.
These are poor quality mp3's, and there's a few rough corners, but you get a pretty good idea of what we're about.

Orquesta Libre New Releases

Here's the full information about the two debut releases from Orquesta Libre, released on July 4th.


It was a challenging and great experience making the recordings. In live gigs, the band has always performed acoustically, i.e. with no microphones or use of a PA system. So Yoshigaki san chose to record in one room, with no separation, monitors or click tracks (including the vocalists), and to record everything, as much as possible, in one take. That was scary, especially as some of the trickiest parts of the songs come in the last 30 seconds of a 7 minute track! But we soon relaxed and it felt really comfortable. The result has been a real revelation to me, as the sound feels really warm and natural. In our era of digitalised music, and of not playing acoustically in studios and on stage, this feels like a real breath of fresh air.

Then finally, I'm pleased to announce the forthcoming release on July 4th of Orquesta Libre's two debut studio albums on East Works Entertainment. "Can’t Help Falling In Love～好きにならずにいられない"(EWGL-0015) is an album of instrumental covers, and "うたのかたち～UTA NO KA・TA・TI"(EWGL-0013/14) is a double CD of songs featuring guest vocalists Yoichiro Yanagihara & Yuichi Ohata. It will be available to buy all over the place, and I'll be listing cover art and shop links shortly.

New Release- Orquesta Libre

This is a big year year for Orquesta Libre. We have tours, festivals and residencies to look forward to (watch this space for more information very soon!), not to mention 3 debut CD releases! As if the group hadn't decided to be prolific enough, we have kicked off proceedings with the online-only release of "Orquesta Libre with おおはた雄一 Plays Standards vol.1 -Live at PIT INN", a live recording of our gig at Shinjuku Pit Inn from Feb 5th. It's available for download from OTOTOY.
